1996 EX Accord with 2.2 VTEC
My car is set up for VTEC was running the 2.2 VTEC until it slung a rod after 330 plus thousand miles and now the only motor that I can find near me is a nonvtech 2.2. I been told that all I have to do is put my vtech head on the non vtec motor and everything should work, but im looking to know if this is true? Remember my 96 accord is already set up for vtech as well.
I don't know much about this, but I would think you definitely would want/need the correct ECU for the motor you are using. I would think there would be a few other things you should replace as well. It may start with just the motor, but I wouldn't think it wouldn't run how it should or last as long without the correct ECU.
Swap the block. You have to remove the oil control orifice from the F22B2 block and then you can keep all of your existing top end parts.
The oil control orifice is the item circled in red!

All this being said, the F22b2 block needs to be a 96-97 in order for it to be a simple top end swap. if it is an older 94-95 F22b2 there will be a few things you will need to swap over on the block as well.
