2009Civic LX - Replaced alternator , good battery , Battery light ON/OFF HELP!!
2009 Honda Civic LX - Replaced alternator , good battery , Battery light coming on and off ...
Heres the scoop
Battery died for no reason one morning , had a buddy jump it drove fine for about a mile then had a screeching noise and some funky smells come out and some smoke .. drove home fine ..
Next day battery was dead again .. figured must need new alternator .. mine was old af .. the OG I think ... replaced the alternator and then the noise and smell and smoke happened again after about 10 minutes of letting the car charge up ..
Watched youtube found out about AC Relay , replaced that too .. problem stopped . ( so might not have needed an alternator cuz AC Relay was causing battery to drain but anywho its in there so Im just gonna pretend I needed that too )
Today , while driving noticed the battery light was coming on and off mostly when steadily accelerating around 1500 - 2000 RPM , never at idle .. Went to autozone had them check battery and alternator - Everything passed and was running fine according to machine )
Did a few laps around parking lot and light didnt come on so I figured Hey im all set !! WRONG -- -about 10 minutes later battery light came back on and went off and whole ride home same at different speeds and accelerating and decelerating
THEN ... I put my headlights on , and the battery light went OFF and STAYED OFF .. the minute i put my headlights off , the battery light came back on .. WTF is happening , Please help
UPDATE ***** just hooked up to OBD 2 code scanner and checked voltage when driving .. dont ya know ... when headlights were OFF after about 1 minutes of driving the battery light came on/ off again as usual and voltage would dip to 12.8 V .... when headlights are ON voltage was fine , no battery light and voltage read 14-14.2 V
Everyone I asked has no idea what the hell is going on . Thanks for anyones time who stops and throws out any guesses .
Thank you ! Bryan

the morons that rebuild autozone alternators are idiots, they are known for being bad out of the box, and I've had the same issue as you with an autozone alternator, it's fine with accessories on but bad with no acc on, they run on dual stages and for some reason autozone just doesn't know how to rebuild them
get a Denso from rockauto
get a Denso from rockauto
Sounds about right !! Thanks your a life saver , going to try and get my old alternator tested hopefully is still good and I can just return the defective one to AZ .. THANKS AGAIN!!!
