Default 5th Gear slips out when accelerating

I rebuilt my transmission 6 years ago and added a TSX 6th gear to my 5spd EP3 tranny. I replaced a blown 2nd gear and any synchros that needed it.
Upon assembly, from the first time I drove it post rebuild, 5th gear would not stay in unless I was completely off the gas. As soon as I touch the gas it slips out.

It does not grind, just slips out. I have dealt with it for 6 years but now that the tranny is out, I want to fix it.

Does any one have any ideas?

I considered that I forgot to replace the ball and spring for the shift fork, but they are all there.

Having not looked in a transmission in 6 years, could you give a picture of said locking ring so I can open it up and check?

I don't have a pic handy, but you can see what they look like at this link from Synchrotech:

Synchro Spring Set Prelude H23 F22

These would be placed around the middle of the perimeter of each synchro brass ring.

Is this the 5th gear locking ring?

And here are the diagrams for the EP3 5spd, RSX-S, TSX. What part would I need to replace? Again, this is a 5spd EP trans with TSX 6th gear.

Yes, that is it. Inspect it, the slider and any wear on the 5th gear side of the shift fork to see if when selected, it is not actually pulling the slider all of the way on to the locking teeth of 5th gear.

Thanks again for your help. I'll inspect it more tonight when I get home. From the pictures, do the synchros look in ok condition? I added these when I rebuilt the transmission and pretty sure I replaced these for the addition of the TSX 6th gear, so would only have 8-10k miles on it.
Also, looking at the TSX diagram, the replacement would be 9 or 19, correct? (19 is a consolidated version of 9)

Part #19 utilizes the single cone synchro components... part #9 utilizes the dual cone synchro components. Depending on which your particular transmission has dictates which set you will use. The synchro brass looks ok... a bit of wear. You might go ahead and swap them while you are in there.
