Default JDM P73-00 Pistons, Rings, P72 Rods, ARP

I have a brand new set of 81.25mm JDM P73-00 pistons, new rings, new ARP rod bolts, on P72 rods. I purchased the pistons and rings from ICB Motorsport, I purchased the rod bolts from Summit. The P72 rods are the original rods out of my B-series. I was planning to use these in my engine build but I hit a snag and the only way to resolve while staying on schedule was to go with aftermarket pistons and rods.

REASON FOR SELLING: I had the machine shop resize the rods for the ARP hardware and press the new pistons on. While assembling the engine, I got a very abnormal clearance measurement on the #1 rod journal. The clearance was tapered across the journal width. While one side showed .020" clearance the opposing side was ~.0008". I went back to the machine shop to explain the issue, they checked everything out and said nothing was wrong. I was not convinced so I went to another machine shop for a second opinion, what we found was that the big end bore was not perfectly parallel with the wrist pin bore, causing the piston to sit crooked in the cylinder, bind up, and result in the tapered clearance across the journal width. I went back to the first machine shop to prove to them that the rods were not right, they refused to admit to a machining error and instead insisted that the rods were bent from the beginning. They bent the rods so that the big end bore was now parallel to the wrist pin bore. At this point I had lost all confidence and trust in this machine shop. I wanted to use these pistons but I could not find another set of rods in the timeline I needed, the only way to keep my project on track was to order aftermarket rods and pistons.

If you are re-building and engine and have a stock set of rods, I would swap the ARP hardware, pistons, and wrist pins over to your rods and have them resized. I would not advise using these rods without having an experienced engine builder look over them at the very least. I would have loved to find another set of rods and be able to use these P73-00's but it was not an option on my timeline. These will be an awesome piston choice in your build.

Asking $450 with full disclosure that the rods not usable in their current condition.
