2000 Civic DX 5spd Oil Surprise
Hi,
picked up a 2000 dx coupe sohc just recent,
100k mi, clean all around,
no oil seeps or anything on ground from sitting
this sucker is using a 1/4 qt in a week, @ 220 miles.
Inspected by one shop, found plugs contaminated but these were original plugs,
so with this kind of usage they'd have fouled out awhile back you might think
shop stated also: oil pump & cam seals leakage.
checked tail pipe & except for very minor black residue that wiped off with a swipe
no black buildup on the inside where it can cake either
hardly enough to show that this would be burning it the way it drops now.
one other shop told me that there's seals both under the valve cover and everywhere that once
replaced would alleviate the whole issue.
This car does not smoke when first started nor smell like that at any time so Id tend to think maybe
when driving hwy speeds(65+) getting a constant drip off from that timing chain area by the oil pump?
Please advise or elaborate what might have done in a similar circumstance given the lower miles.
What would cause the plugs to be atleast some what contaminated if not the rings on this engine?
Same shop that spoke about replacing seals has a day open to do this, but like to make sure what the
prime culprit is.
Thanks
