I'm from Saskatchewan, Canada (minus 40 winters)... I have a 1999 CRV, 4WD (automatic transmission) that I've owned since about 2009 but I confess I've never changed the transaxle fluid. I want to do a complete transaxle change like I did in my 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan.
On my van -
1. I drained the fluid (and filter)
2. Filled the transaxle with fluid
3. Then I popped off one of the transaxle coolant lines and put a funnel into it.
4. On the other transaxle coolant line, I attached a clear hose to it draining into a collection container.
5. I filled the funnel, started the engine and the funnel started sucking new fluid into the transaxle as the old transaxle fluid started to drain into the clear tubing into the collection container.
6. The fluid started drain as dirty, I kept pouring in new fluid into the funnel and when it started to run clean/clear, I turned the engine off and re-connected the transaxle coolant lines.
Could I somehow do this same procedure with my CRV? I know I can't change the filter because its internal. I would like to get as much of the dirty, aged fluid out as I can. I have read about the 4X method...
