2008 Ody engine failure!
My 2008 Ody with only 133k milles on it, of which I have put about 53k on, has a destroyed crankshaft keyway! It finally failed driving on the interstate when I lost alternator charging and power steering. I was able to get into a rest area almost immediately. Looked under the hood to see the crankshaft pulley halfway off, but the drive belt still holding on to the pulleys. This seems way too early for this type of failure and I have not seen many similar posts here. The only work I have had done in this area of the engine is a timing belt replacement at 106k. My question is could anything done wrong during that timing belt work so long ago have caused this to happen? The shop is telling me no, but I saw somewhere that if the woodruff key was installed upside down, this could happen. Any and all thoughts welcome from this forum!
Photos attached of the crankshaft pulley with the keyway worn completely gone, and the crankshaft keyway damage.
PS this van was not used as long as I had it for any towing and hard driving - mostly highway in a relatively flat area.
