Hi all. I thought I would try my hand at a bit of a build log as I recently picked up an EG hatch for a project.

So, originally I picked up a 1994 Honda Integra VTi-R with a B18C2 for cheap locally. The owner described it as having a shifting issue, and after having a chat to him about it I determined that it was the clutch at fault. After a look on eBay I learned that a clutch is under 300 bucks, so I organised a time and went and bought it. Ended up needing a new clutch, CV joints, torque mounts, alternator belt, and a few other bits. Got everything replaced and the car was driving great.
I spotted a D15 Carby EG Civic locally for cheap, and after toying with the idea of buying it and swapping everything into it for a brief period of time, I bought it. Shortly afterwards I spotted a 99 VTi-R Integra that was mildly crashed for sale in the state. It had lower kilometers, was apparently meticulously maintained, and looked to be in fantastic condition bar the cosmetic damage from the accident. As my step-brother had expressed interesting in buying my running Integra for his first car, this worked out great. I sold the first Integra to him, and I'm currently waiting on the paperwork to be sorted out for me to buy the crashed one. If everything goes to plan I will have it in the next week.

This is the EG as I bought it. It had a front end hit at some point and the bumper and headlights are a bit misaligned. I'm hoping to be able to line everything up a bit better.




This is after I started stripping it out. I decided to strip out the majority of the interior, leaving only the seats, dash, door cards and headliner, in order to make the car as light as possible for maximum go-kartiness. The car smelled weird so this was a good choice.




Here I have pulled everything I want to remove out of the interior, and started to clean the filth from under the trim. I have cleaned almost everywhere that was previously covered, took many hours.




I also got a bit ahead of myself and bought a steering wheel for it already. It's a DND 350mm leather wrapped wheel. Looks nice. Where are located? Oz? I don't know what the plates look like...
When you say you found a Civic carby - do you mean it is not FI, but running a carb?
Did your cleaning make the smell better?

I'm in Tasmania, Australia.
And yes, it's a factory carbureted engine.
I imagine removing the seats and carpet were what got rid of the smell for the most part.

Crazy! I did not know Honda still made carburetor engines?!? You would think it would be cheaper to just support FI...

Any pics of the carburetor?

Won't be long now until my donor car is here. The waiting is killing me!

Here's the tidy little B18C2 I'll be dropping in, from a 1999 Integra VTi-R. This motor makes 179 HP and revs to 8200 RPM, with the VTEC engaging at 4500 RPM. It has 203,000 KMs on the clock but I'm told it's been religiously maintained, and it shows.

Grab compression numbers when you do the swap.

 

PS - I wonder what the difference B18C1 and B18C2 is?

 

Yeah, I'm amazed at how clean it is. The timing belt was also done recently, which is a bonus. Got it for a steal for the condition.
And yeah, I'll give it a test at some point if I can get my hands on a mate's compression tester.

Honestly I wouldn't know, this is my first venture into Honda and I really have only researched things pertaining to my project. Based on what I've read I'd say they're virtually identical, just a different market's version of the same engine, perhaps with a different tune for different fuel. I could be wrong though!

 

As long as the "2" doesn't mean it's a carby...

Alright, so the Integra is organised to be dropped off at my place tomorrow. I'm also borrowing my mate's dad's engine hoist (legend) as that's about the only thing I will need that I don't have.

Alrighty! I took delivery of the Integra today, and also picked up the engine hoist. Poor girl was t-boned by an unlicensed, uninsured motorcyclist. I was told the poor bastard lost two toes!





First thing to do was start ripping the engine out of the Civic. I only had a few hours today to work on it but I got it ready to remove, just needs a few engine mounts removed and she's out.






Got the chains mocked up and the motor will be coming out tomorrow. I'm planning on pulling the motors and dashboards from both cars and spending a little while swapping the loom over and wiring everything up. Should be fun.

Hopefully it was the motorist that hit the Integra that lost the toes. That damage to the side doesn't look too bad...

So today I finished pulling the motor out of the Civic. I also pulled the dash and began pulling the motor from the Integra. Should get that out tomorrow as well as the Integra's dash, and then the wiring shall be underway.

 

Damn man, you ain't playing!

How much of a PITA is it to pull the dash?

 

Actually wasn't bad, only 8 or so bolts in mostly easy spots. Easier because the centre console and all that was already out.

Today I finished pulling the motor from the Integra, and forgot to disconnect the fuel feed and ripped the hose from the fitting because I'm a doofus - hopefully that's not going to be stupid expensive to replace. Would be nice if it just had a standard bit of hose instead of that funny piece with two different sized banjos. I also pulled the dash from the Teg and got most of the loom disconnected. Tomorrow I will hopefully get the looms out of both cars, should get a fair bit done at least as I have a whole day free for a change.

Question - are you keeping the IAB factory intake on the B18?
