Can anyone have an idea what this is?

I bought a used civic 1997.
And I have no idea what this means.
Air conditioner button is covered up with something.

And what is the red LED by the cover?

I'm not sure if I have a compressor for air conditioner. I opened bonett but I was too short of knowledge.
Please, help me..

You don't have A/C.

The red led is most likely part of an aftermarket alarm system.

Now, I am curious if civic had a version without air conditioner or it was taken out after..

The air conditioner was a dealer installed option, though the control panel and some of the harness is pre-wired for it. After putting the system under the hood they would take the cover off and put in a real button.

Importing the car with no A/C then adding it at the dealer before sale had a tax advantage.
