transmission from 98 dx into 97 ex

is this a direct swap or would it not work?

Auto to auto. Manual to manual. Same trim. Yes. No mix and match. Hx stays in hx.

Liked mentioned above if it's auto to auto or manual to manual yes, as long as it IS a dx tranny to ex engine. You will notice that gears are longer though.
