Default Won't start

I just purchased my first honda a 1996 accord automatic transmission with a vtech motor the problem I having is it does not start the engine just turns over the d4 light will light up and it will start sometimes it takes 1 minute others it takes a hour please help

Have your checked for fuel and spark? That is typically a good place to start.

i hooked a obd2 scanner and it read that it wasnt communicating i tried a second scanner and it read the same
how do i check the ecu

Get a worrying diagram for the main relay and check for voltage at the output. If no voltage there, check for supply voltage and the control ground from the ecu.

main relay is fine just bought a brand new one but the fuel pump still doesn't turn on when I turn the key

You need to check for power at the fuel pump. And then start tracking back from there.

Main Relay Fix, Troubleshooting (Honda, Acura) and how to solder

You can apply direct battery to the fuel pump using test leads. If the pump turns on you know it's good.
