Hello,
I recently bought a Civic and the previous owner did not purchase a harness for the wiring system. He cut off the White Harness shown in the picture below circled in red and attached the wires to the new stereo with electrical tape. However the memory was not connected properly, so settings would hold ect..
After removing the stereo to do some work on the dash I cant figure out how to reconnect it properly. I have tried using different websites as a refrence, such as Car Stereo Radio Wiring Diagram ? 1998 Honda Civic
I was wondering if anyone could help me out or has had this similar problem. Ive tried connecting it in as many different ways as I can, straight to the battery, ive checked the fuses, but right now I cant even get the stereo to turn on. Any help would be appreciated, Ive even been looking to buy just a replacement piece and reconnect a stock one.
This is what i, myself, would do. Go to the junk yard. Find a civic with stock radio harness still intach. Cut it back atleast 10in. Bring it home, solder it to your civic. By color matching wires.
THEN, by the adapter harness. Wire it up to your radio. Now evetything should be good.
check your fuses. Pull them out and look. Dont guess..

Yes absolutely do that. That way it will be easy to swap the stereo again whenever you want to.
Disconnect the battery before splicing wires in the car. The fuse for the constant 12 volt wire (white and blue wire in the car, yellow wire on aftermarket stereo) is under the hood. It is almost certainly blown if people have been cutting and splicing the wires without disconnecting the battery.
Test your stereo on the bench. Connect the yellow wire and the red wire together to (+) of a live car battery. Connect the black wire to the (-). Leave all the other wires disconnected. It should turn on and light up. Of course you won't hear any sound without connecting a speaker. If this test fails you have likely damaged the unit.
Yellow wire from radio goes to white/blue wire from harness. Red wire from radio goes to yellow wire from harness. Black wire from radio, ground to chassis. Not sure of you have power antenna or amp, speakers are tricky. I'll see if I can dig up my diagram cause my car is at home right now as I am cruising with the wife.
edit: the fuse to check under hood should be a 7.5 amp.
