Default 1994 Honda Accord Ex. Speedometer reads ten too fast

I recently purchased this car from some guy that was selling it. When I first got it, about a week ago, it was running fine from what I thought. Then I started noticing a slight change in my speed. He mentioned something about a vtec solenoid needing to be replaced. Last night I drove by one of those cop speed checkers, my speedometer read around 80mph, yet the sign read only about 69mph. Any idea how I can fix this problem?

A VTEC solenoid issue should have no effect on your speedo reading.

I still have the stock rims and tire sizes match the inside of the door. Could anything else affect my Speedo reading?

Just have a friend drive on the freeway with you. Have them put the cruise control on at 65 and you go at 65 with them and look at your speedometer.

If you have a Garmin it will tell you the vehicle speed. You can borrow someone's for a while if you need to.

I have a similar problem but Im not sure how to fix it. I have a 94 wagon with the stock 15" tires and rims. My spedometer wasnt working when i got the car. I replaced VSS and still no love. Replaced the speedo with one with similar milage, (it now works) however the speedo is linearly off (IE reads 60mph, car is going 51 mph according to iphone GPS, reads 80, car is going somewhere around 68.) according to calculations (I do this for gas milage) the Speedo is registering 1.13 miles for every real mile traveled. I want to say this is more so due to the fact that the wagon Speedo was different. (It has a seperate part number) but Ive been unable to get a wagon spedometer to see if it really is the difference.
