so i have already received my new tuner series stage 1 cams skunk2 and just ordered the skunk2 alpha series springs and titanium retainers..im at the point where i need to figure out what valves to use..some people tell me to stick with the oem valves that they are really strong,some people are saying go skunk2 and some to go supertech..i wanted to know if there is any of you with experience in using these or know the truth about these valves for a turbo set up..i should be pushing around 450-500 hp please help thanks

 

stock would be fine at that hp number but if if you have new valves, i dont see a problem of using those as well.

To me, it depends upon the condition of the valves in the head. If you plan to go over the RPM limit by quite a bit, I find no reason why you shouldn't change them as well as the rest of the head.
Go ahead with the skunk2s or even a good set of Ferrea 6000 series.

 

I agree with Shodan's suggestion of Ferrea 6000's... and if $$$ is no object, go all out and get the Competition Plus valves from Ferrea. For a Honda, valves don't get any better than that.

 

the original valves have about 70k miles of use on them and they were cleaned up nice but still i had concerns if they will hold up heat from the turbo cuz i know everything will be getting hotter..and i'm not rich but i can deffinatelt afford them, i just don't want to cut no corners and make sure this build goes right. will the ferrea 6000 work with the skunk2 cams and the skunk2 springs? if not i guess i might be going with the skunk2 valves. my question is are the skunk2 2 alpha valves stronger then the gsr valves up to what rpm can they be pushed????

 

There's no bright-line rule as to when stock valves cease to be good on their engines, it really depends upon how the user treated the engine as a whole. I'm usually the 1st one to go a complete package if I have the head off (except for valve guides). Stock valves can take a good deal of punishment from turbocharging, so as long as you trust the components of the cylinder head from previous use, regardless of mileage, I see no reason why you can't keep them.

Unlike the rest of the valvetrain, Ferrea valves don't have to match with the rest of the valvetrain components you're using. They are a wonderful alternative to the Skunk2 line, and do quite well, so there's no need to worry about mix/matching at that level.

If you want to keep the stock valves, that's fine, as there is less machining costs involved, of course. But, if you want that extra bit of insurance, aftermarket valves (with the stock valve guides) like the Ferrea is nice option. At this point, it's about preference.
