Orientation of the snap-ring for the wheel bearing
Logic tells me that the machined flat surface of the snap-ring should face away from the bearing, but when I took it apart, it was the other way around (flat edge against bearing). Not sure if it's that way from the factory. Just wondering if anyone knows which way the factory installs them.
The picture is how I think it should go, but not how it was.
Re: Orientation of the snap-ring for the wheel bearing
Set the snapring aside waiting for a reply to this post and proceeded to put the hub back on without it. Welp, that mistake will cost me $80 for a new bearing. Haha!
Re: Orientation of the snap-ring for the wheel bearing
I think that is just an artifact of how snap rings are manufactured (by stamping them out of a flat plate). There's no intentional "sidedness" to them, and it doesn't matter how you install. If you look at a flat washer closely you see the same thing.
