Default Unattached hose in engine?

I was changing my spark plugs today and noticed a hose towards the bottom of the engine on the right side was not attached. I don't know how long it's been like this, although I had it in the shop earlier today to get looked over for something unrelated.

I unscrewed the 10mm nut holding a piece of rubber (pictured in hand) but it looks like I'm missing something to connect the metal end of the hose into the rubber? Or did this just snap off?

Any help much appreciated. Pictures below:

Below alternator. Rubber removed. Connecting metal to the right.

It's the ac compressor. It's safe to assume your ac has never been working.
