Default 98 Civic Hatchback DX Daily Driver w/ Casual Mods

Recently picked this up, maybe not even a month yet. Car has some hail damage on roof and hood and rear wing but that's about it. Fender's and the rest of the car are free of hail damage and have your typical door dings from age. Paint is faded here and there but no clear coat peeling. Car is rust free and drove good when I first bought it. Car has a JDM B16A swap when I acquired it and it was running a P2P ECU. I recently purchased a P30 from a member here and was able to do about two full pulls before the car started knocking. Turns out the car did not have enough oil pressure due to age and the oil light never came on because the oil light on the cluster was removed. Just my luck?

The plan now is to put another B16 in the car since I plan to keep this car B series and maybe down the road acquire an EG or Integra for a K swap. I paid for a JDM B16A and am waiting for it to arrive so I can start replacing seals, timing belt and all that jazz. Until then here are some pictures along with some small fixes.

New hood painted, shade was off vs the rest of the car but beats looking at a hood with a crap ton of hail dents.

Paid for a CTR shift boot but was sent a jdm 5 speed shift ****, I decided to keep it and re-ordered the CTR shift boot for a discounted price due to their mistake.

Did a full audio system over haul. OEM speakers worked and all that but bass was seriously lacking. Just wanted better sound, nothing high dollar here.

Car came with a broken drivers side mount, so I replaced that.

I love that it's completely stock but is B-Swapped. Perfect platform to start on.

Pulled the knocking B16A out, still waiting for new motor. I took a chance and purchased from ICHIBANJDM in California so I will let you guys know how everything turns out.

Just a few crappy phone photos since my hand and gloves were always wet with either oil or coolant and didn't want to keep washing my hands to use the Sony. This was also my very first time pulling an engine by myself.

sucks about the motor, but that is a clean slate to work on.

Sure does, my dad tried to convince me into just ditching everything and buy a newer car but that won't be happening haha.

Thanks, hopefully everything is good on the new(used) motor. Throw on a less restrictive header, quiet exhaust, intake and just enjoy the car.

Having sold a few of my cars in the past and regretting it, i'm trying not to make the same mistake again. I know for damn sure if I were to get rid of this thing now i'd be wishing I didn't the very next day.

Also update on my experience with ICHIBANDJDM so far.

The guy I spoke to, Chris has been very informative and has provided me with answers to everything I asked about. One that was lacking was the time it took for them to make contact with me so that I could make payment for lift gate service. Tracking says that the motor has "Arrived at destination terminal" so hopefully today? If not tomorrow would be awesome so I could wrap this up over this up coming weekend.

Received a few pieces to replace on the new motor. Just got confirmation that it will be delivered this Saturday 3/3/2017.

I also ordered a few other pieces that will come in soon, you guys will have to wait and see.

Replacement motor came in from ICHIBANJDM today. Motor overall it's clean and looks good. Hopefully it starts up and gives me no issues. All belts including timing belt showed no signs of cracking, rust is at a minimal and engine block and head seems to have no oil/dirt residue. No broken sensors or stripped holes from my thorough inspection. I will be replacing the timing belt, oil pump, water pump/tensioner, valve cover gasket, axle seals and a crap ton more seals before the motor goes in the car. All of those parts get here next week and the car SHOULD be back up and running by next weekend. I also bought coilovers, RPF1's with some 205/50 Falken Azenis along with an OEM SIR Lip. She will have a new motor and a new stance :D

I was looking at those the other day, I like em. I wish Enkei was still in Madison Heights it was like two miles from me.

Well just finished up with clutch install today, throw out bearing and all that jazz. Gotta slap tranny back onto motor and then back into the car it goes!

Some low quality fotos.

Haven't done the best at keeping up to date but she's finished for now. Got the motor back in and had some CEL's but were taken care of.
