F22a1 swap into a 94 accord?
So I recently picked up a manual 94 accord ex with the f22b1 in it. It's got a blown head gasket. I have a buddy that has a good f22a1. I was wondering if it is possible to swap into the 94 or should I just redo the head gasket. Thanks for any input ...BTW I'm a
Sometimes it's hard to get an engine to run right after a head gasket failure even after having the head resurfaced. This is because sometimes the head will warp too much or the block might even warp. It's best to swap in another good engine. The thing about it is that your original engine has vtec and it might be good to try to salvage that engine. You will need to pull the head and buy some precision straight edges and a .001 inch feeler gauge and check if the block is warped. If it's not warped you could send the head to a good shop and have it resurfaced. After the resurface you will check to make sure it's within specs with the same precision straight edges. This will depend on how bad it warped. If it is within spec you will pick up some new head bolts(because the old bolts will have stretched bad) and slap it back on and put it all back together. Depending on how bad it warped the head bolts might not come off. If this happens the engine is likely not going to be salvaged.
F22B1 engines are a dime a dozen too. Best to just spend $300 on one, replace all the seals and gaskets, and just drop it in. The older F22As are quite a bit different from the Bs, and its probably gonna take more time/money to get that all converted and running right rather than just getting a direct replacement.
