Default '99 transmission replacement

I've got a F23A1 '99 Japanese built Accord with 270k and the tranny is finally dying. Do I need to replace the tranny from a Japan Accord or can I use any 6th generation transmission? The guy at the junkyard wasn't sure.

I would call and ask a dealer service department but my guess is that you can use either. You may want to get a used one from Japan as they are usually low mileage and cheaper, I have heard. I have never bought one myself but if you search on JDM transmissions you may glad to see the prices.

If you have an auto tranny you're going to either want to rebuild it or swap in one of the same id.

Is there something in the id I need to pay attention to besides the MAXA? Are you saying if I find any 6th generation MAXA I could swap it out? Thanks
