Default 90 honda civic 5 speed swap

So ive got a 90 civic sedan and am planning my swap. It stock has the d15b2 and the 5 speed tranny. I found a local guy who is going to sell me a built block that just needs a new oil bearing, its a 97 d15b with a head swap off a 2000 block. It has low compression pistons, eagle rods, new cam, and all kinds of stuff even dyno sheets. He is also selling me the ecu, harness, coilovers, rims and tires, and another tranny if i need it, and for a moddest 750 im pretty happy. I just want to know if im going to need new axles or anything like that. And another this is the exhaust is crap on the 90, no muffler, and i was wondering if i need a custom exhaust made to fit the manifold or if i can kinda just piece the exhaust togeth. Sorry for all the questions but thanks!

Wouldn't pay for that if it needs new bearings probably beat to ****, which explains why it is all so cheap. Why not just buy a complete y8 or z6 swap that is all complete...Can be had for about $400 engine, transmission, axles and ECU. Just go on eBay and get a exhaust for your car they are cheap and do the job.

So i still went and checked out the motor, it is a 97 d15 with y8 heads i thought he meant the bearings on the motor were spun but it was actually the turbo he was selling with the block that had a spun bearing, so i think ill buy it and have it checked anyway and possibly rebuilt.

what's a '97 D15?? there weren't any 1.5L Honda blocks in north america in 1997. The low engine in 1997 would have been a D16Y7. So the newest a north american block can possibly be is a 1995.

Ok it's d16z6 or d16y8, and they will have more power than a Frankenstein d15 block with d16 head. Also make sure you get the ex transmission that would come with the y8 or z6, shortest gearing for d series. And unless your going turbo there is no need for a low compression Frankenstein build, besides like I said before he probably beat the **** out of that motor.
So have you heard it run
Have you checked the plugs
Have you done a compression test

for the same price you can go with a high compression b20, with transmission, ECU and be so much faster and ->reliable<- go right to the importers.

Ok so ive been checking out blocks on hmotorsonline, everyone on cb7 tuner told me it was the best place for import engines and such, and i found zc 92 - 97 or something like that. Anyway it is a long block, comes with alternator mpfi and all that, and its extra for the axles, tranny, and harness, like 500 or so dollars. I have about 2000 dollars to drop into this project maybe even 3000 if my wife lets me. The car is in decent condition, almost no rust, besides the exhaust wich is getting completely replaced. Needs new tires and rims all around, no speakers or deck, and the fans dont work, but i want to build the engine and suspension before i start worrying about cosmetics. As stated earlier someone said a zc or y8 would be the way to go, and yes i do plan on running boost so i dont want a high compression block i would have to rebuild to be able to run boost, so no b series for now. But anyhow would the zc be a good swap? Especially for a beginners swap? I have others to help me swap it but i want the hands on experience, you know built not baught thanks again!

zc is basically like step 1 of the swap world. it is the easiest swap, same as doing a D16A6 pretty much. But all the ZC engines I know of are OBD0 (pre 1992)... If these are OBD1 ZCs, then it would be just like swapping in a D16Z6.

D16Y8 you have to figure out the whole OBD2 to OBD0 thing, or covert everything to OBD1... it's a bit of a wiring nightmare, but in mechanical terms it is the same as any other D series block.

Just do lots of research before you jump into this. Make sure you are comfortable reading wiring diagrams and stuff and have Helms manuals for both the donor car and your car on hand. Cuz at the end of the day, no one on the interwebz is going to get your car running; it'll have to be you.

go through the tech/misc section there are tons of swap post. You can get axles and misc. stuff on RockAuto, if you plan to do boost in the future as most of us do🙄 I wouldn't shoot for a low compression engine. It rarely pans out that way in the long run so get the most bang for your buck and get the best motor in your price range power wise. You won't be disappointed. Also anything that you may not be able to purchase online just go to the junk yard and pull. $2k is such an easy budget to make this all happen and still have $$$ leftover 👍

Ok so ive been reading around on swapping the zc into my 90 civic sedan and im still confused. All this talk about obd and wiring into the ecu and dual point to mpfi and also wiring in vtec. So im looking here on hmo at a 88 - 92 civic dohc long block, but scrolling down it says, zc tranny add 275, pm7 - p29 ecu for 150, and zc axels for another 150. My question now is can i just replace the ecu i have now with the pm7/p29 and buy the ecu jumper harness to connect the existing connector inside near the computer to the new computer? It doesnt say if i can buy the harness seperate like the tranny and stuff, ill have to call and ask i guess. And the motor i am looking at is the dohc is this the best choice?

Looking sround on hmotorsonline.com and started looking at the d15b sohc vtec motors, there are two to choose from, 92-95 single stage vtec 849.99, and 96 - 99 3 stage vtec 749.99. Which would be easier to swap in the single stage or 3 stage vtec motor? Also t speed hydro tranny - 295 , po8 for 92 - 95 150.00 or p2j for 96 - 98. Is the hydro tranny better than the tranny in it now? Would it be hard to convert to hydro tranny? I just want an easy swap with noticeable gains, something boost worthy also. 2000 to 2500 most on budget. Thanks!

Well i am just about completely over this honda, dual point is crap and why waste the time on a conversion so later on i can drop in a zc or a y8 or a b16 and go through hell finding the right mounts and linkage and all that other good stuff. Im sorry but this is ending up to be a crap honda i loved my 92 accord lx non vtec f22a1 even though it wasnt the best, after i put a full exhaust, clutch, the right rims and tires and so much other cosmetic and upgrades here and there. Ive decided to just put aftermarket head and tail lights, fix the fan situation, rims and tires and possibly a new clutch for the ef, make it look good ya know? And just pawn it off to a new owner at a decent price, hell it was free anyway lol, and get a different honda or preferably my first acura thanks for all the help but this build would just drag on and on for more power!
