Another newb joins the ranks
Hello all. I've lurked on this site for years always meaning to create an account.
I've always enjoyed doing minor repairs myself, but a few years ago I went into a period of extended unemployment that significantly broadened the need to expand my DIY abilities. I own a 1995 Honda Del Sol S, that probably should have been given up on a long time ago. What started as a CV joint replacement, grew into replacing just about everything in the suspension, and upgrade to 17 inch rims, and recently lowering it with coilovers.
I sealed over the radio antenna hole and put in an XM radio kit that turned out pretty nice. The car has significant rust damage that was previously gypsied with an excessive amount of bondo (I was not pleased). So having that cut out of the back quarter panels and new metal welded in is a project that is in the future.
The engine runs well, after replacing the entire exhaust system behind the manifold. I love getting 40 MPG in what appears to be a sports car. the 1.5l has enough vroom for an old guy like me, but I may swap in a B1B sitting in a friend's garage someday. The only real problem with my 1.5 is the inner cam rings are bad and it fills the spark plug holes with oil that I have to clean out every month or two. I have the replacement rings, just haven't had the time. Yes, I've tried replacing the valve cover gasket. That isn't where it's leaking. After months of spinning my wheels, I found out there is another set of gaskets under the valves.
I replaced the timing belt and water pump last summer. I was dreading this, but it went pretty well. The only snag I ran into was getting the harmonic balancer nut loose. Used the starter trick, came right off.
I'll post a few pics of the car when I get a chance.
Nice being a part of this place finally. Greetings all!
