Default 01 accord rpms jumping on acceleration

Any time , cold or hot, if i give the car any over half throttle at any rpm, they will jump as if the car is red lining at whatever rpm im at. If i ease off the gas i can cruise on through the rpms. Get a code for vtec malfunction. But would that really cause my issue? I figured that would just make me lose power not affect the drivability. New crank position sensor as well. Oil lever is good. Any ideas? Just happened out of the blue one morning.

Sounds like a ground issue, which could cause vtec to malfunction as well. Check for ohms from the block to the negative battery terminal. Touch the negative battery terminal in its most middle spot, with the test lead not touching anything else, the other end touching the block. Should be 1 ohm or less. You must touch the leads together and subtract that from the reading to account for internal resistance.

Ground s good. To be more specific, the car will under no circumstances go over 4k rpms. Thats when it redlines. Soon as it does i get vtec malfunction code.

Check for oil leaks at the vtec pressure solenoid and switch. We've heard that if it's leaking a decent amount it will not allow proper pressure to allow for vtec. Also, check for dents in the oil pan which would also not allow for vtec as well. You could also pull the solenoid and check that the screens are free and clear.
