so you're going to have a cold air cone/piping on one corner of your engine bay, going through the intercooler in the middle, then curving up into the intake manifold? sounds like a decent idea (one i've had before too), in theory, but an intercooler makes itself useful by cooling extremely hot gas, not chilling already tepid air. you wouldn't see much of a gain, i'm sad to say.

putting an intercooler onto your intake would have some pretty serious negative effects on the intake airflow. major intake producers spend countless ammounts of time finding ways to smooth and straighten the air's pathway. putting an intercooler into that path way would definitely throw much too large of a kink in the airflow to justify the possible temp drops.

also, this would destroy the intake air's velocity. intercoolers usually constitute for about a 1-1.5 psi drop in boost when used in FI. i'm sure there would be problems with the air traveling so slow on an NA engine. there is a thread about volumetric efficiency in the tech section that touches on intake velocity and it's role in making power. might be worth checking out if you are interested.
