Radiator cooling fan never shuts off while car is off?
I have a 1995 Honda Accord LX 2.2L that I have been going through. The car has sat a few years because it had some brake/fuel lines rotted but I got those fixed up and the car is running smoothly.
One thing I have noticed is the passenger side radiator fan will not shut off after the car has been shut off and key removed. I experimented with it and it would run for at least 15 minutes before I disconnected the battery. Temp gauge always shows about 3/8 way up from the bottom after warming up. You can insert the key and turn the ignition to the ON position and the fan will shut off but once you turn to OFF position and/or remove key it will come back on. Weird.
The outside temperature was a whopping 15F today so I don't think the fan would need to run very long to cool the engine.
Any tips or advice on how to troubleshoot this would be appreciated.
Thanks!

It's possible just the sensor for that fan that runs only when the ignition is off is somehow stuck closed. You can test for continuity on the switch itself. It's the one located where the upper radiator hose goes. It should have no continuity when the engine is cold. If it does, it's bad. You can temporarily just unplug that switch if it's bad and it will have no noticable issues and won't be an issue as long as you aren't in extremely hot weather. That switch is designed to turn on that fan when the ignition is off in extremely hot weather so that the engine doesn't get damaged by heat when the car is turned off and temperatures rise in extremely hot weather. If it's bad it's important to get this switch directly from Honda. If there is no continuity then it's possible the fan timer is bad.
Pulled the wire connector by upper radiator hose while engine off and fan running and as soon as pulling the connector the fan goes off. Tested continuity and the switch seems to loose continuity after a few minutes. Sounds like normal operation. I think I'll go ahead and order a fan timer module and hopefully that will do it. Thanks again for the info.
