Default Leaking power steering - replace pump or just seals?

I have the original PS pump on my GSR with 357K miles on it, and it appears to be leaking fluid all over the place, all down onto the AC compressor, belts, down onto the splash guards, under the oil pan, etc. It's a mess.

I can get a used PS pump for around ~$50, or a brand new pump from RockAuto for $100-$150, or they have a Gates PS seal kit for $13. I'm wondering if it's just the seals that typically need replacing on these pump units or if I really need to replace the whole thing. Or maybe it's so difficult to replace the seals that it may be worth it to just replace the whole thing. I don't know, I haven't looked at the Helms yet for PS pump disassembly procedures.

Anyone have experiences doing this?

Not sure what year GSR you have, but I took a quick look at a '96 Sedan, and it looks like there are 3 o-rings and 1 seal that can be replaced internally for less than $15...

I did this on my 88 civic and it still leaks. Most likely it's because I did something wrong. It's not too complicated. I am going to change the seals again because I know I can.

It's so easy to replace the seals. Just remember the pulley bolt is normally reverse threaded. Then dip each new oring in power steering fluid when you replace it. I'd get another bearing from Honda just to be on the safe side with that many miles. The only time you need to replace the pump is if the bearing seized up. You will just need to pull the snap ring to get to the main shaft seal. Harbor Freight has a cheap priced snap ring set. They are cheaply made but they get the job done, not the really cheap set, but the higher priced one.

$25 for the bearing DANG!!! I'll probably order all the o-rings OEM. The sets sold by RockAuto and on Amazon etc. for some reason don't show the tiny little 5.8 mm diameter o-ring (part #19), so I'm skeptical of those whole sets. It's really almost the same price to just order OEM, except I can't use my Amazon gift card.

Why would I need a snap ring set from HF? Surely the snap ring on there now can stand being removed and replaced. I have snap ring pliers already. Or did you mean the tool to remove and replace the shaft bearing?

I counted something else that needed to be replaced...forgot what it was but it SHOULD be 7 since you're taking it all apart anyways. Do it once, do it all.

The relief valve oring shouldn't need replacing. I wasn't sure if you had a snap ring set.

I don't understand what you mean by snap ring set. A set of new snap rings? Or the snap ring pliers?

You'll need a snap ring plier to remove the shaft in order to get to the seal that sits behind it.

Yeah, I meant snap ring pliers set to remove the snap ring that hides the seal.

Not hard, I did my sister's db7 powersteering pump using the gates kit from rockauto, had to penny pinch after all the other parts I had ordered from Honda/Acura but its all back together and working just fine.
