Default Mark 8 type s

hi my car won't start up if I leave the keg ignition on or any electrics for more then 1 min or so. All clueless when it comes to car parts and price please help. It was very cold today and my car engine management sign showed up and it was really smelly smoke coming from exhaust and car would not accelerate 😪 I took it some local garage who found nothing wrong charged me for a service as I thought it might help. Garage informed me it could be due to my car radiator fan Running all the time. I have never know this to be running all the time. Am I getting mugged off here? Confused 🤷*♀️ I no nothing please help. Car seem to work fine but I am very wary 😒 to what the garage man said. How much am I looking at???

I would pop your hood, open it and start your car. If the fans run the whole time you know they are telling the truth (especially if its cold). If the fans do not kick on until the motor gets warm, you know it is working correctly. You may need to get a new battery too. I think if you remove your battery and bring it in most auto parts stores (NAPA, O'Reilly's etc) will check it for free. I don't know what the shop gave you as an estimate and what work they offered. I am guessing they want to replace your thermostat. I would Google your car make/model/year thermostat replacement cost and see if they're estimate is similar.

And definitely look and see what the code your engine management is providing you.

What does a thermostat look like can I buy it second hand. If the problem is not sorted would it damage the car engine? Car is working fine but I'm just wary and want to sort it out but on my budget a cheap but not doge.
Many thanks for the help well appreciate😬

I so love my Honda

The biggest thing is finding out what the engine light code says. Is it telling you to change the oil or is it saying a sensor is sensing a problem? Then as long as it is safe to run the car and it has oil/fluids etc I would check and see if your fans operate properly like I suggested above. If they don't I would have the shop fix it. If your fan works fine I wouldn't take it back to that shop.

It was very cold on day The engine management light came on and the car was diving sluggish. As I switched engine of and on it dispaired. The Sign the sluggish drive. At moment no engine lights on but apparently the radiator fan comes on as the engine runs. Should it not be doing that?

You should see why the light is coming on. There should be a code (number) that relates to a sensor on your car. I think autozone and some auto parts store can plug in to your car and check the codes for free. Sometimes it is helpful. You need to see what is causing that light to come on.

The fan is supposed to come on to keep your motor at a safe temperature. The fan starts as soon as you start your car? If it is doing this I would think there is a problem. Your engine is actually too cold to operate correctly when you first start it and it is cold. Or does the fan kick on after a couple minutes, turn off and back on a couple minutes later? That's what it should be doing.
