Default Troubleshooting electrical issues on 1997 crv

Hi, maybe I'll do introduction at a more opportune time. Now I could use some help. I purchased this lemon and now I am paying for it. Literally and figuratively. The car came with busted ignition (you start it with anything and then nothing has to be in a keyhole..., non functioning aftermarket alarm, and crusty repainted airbags. You get the picture.

i started tackling issues. I thought that swapping steering column would take care of most of those things. Found a nice column at the yard, managed to replace it,and ditch the alarm I. The process, but only to find out that the donnor (2001) crv doesn't match up with my 1997. I swapped couple of plugs based on wire color matching and locations, but in the end, while ignition works great, I now am missing wipers and running lights (brake lights, headlamps, turn sigs. Ok), and reverse light.

While I am gonna try to swap some components from old to new steering column, which hopefully will take care of things, there is still a few variables to address: orphan plugs I see a couple of sockets mounted that have nothing in them, one is located behind the kick panel where hood release is. This one had some alarm wires clipped into it, but nothing connected. Second plug is behind the fuse box, a gray one, that is attached with few other plugs in the area. This is the large one, with small pins close to the steering column. Honestly I do not recall if there should have been something there or not.

After this long intro, here is what I am after. Can someone with knowledge of those crv'S confirm if those plugs should be empty? That will allow me to determin if alarm wiring did more than just alarming...

For or now, with exception of airbag and ignition, I am planning to move wiper controls, light controls, and interlock with their respective harnesses from original column onto a new one.

Honda does tend to leave some sockets open as well as having connectors that are unconnected. Usually this is done for addition of electrical accessories and the loose connectors will be taped to the harness with blue tape. If there is an aftermarket alarm they may have utilized these for power or ground. Snap a picture or two so we can see which connectors are in question.

Personally, I cut out aftermarket alarms and repair the wiring back to stock. They tend to be more trouble than they are worth, especially when they get old and buggy.

Thanks Ty!

Well, I re-checked under dash fuses, replaced the light stalk switch (wand), replace that chunky piece with interlock solenoid and a shifter handle, and... NOTHING!

I must be missing something.

Here are the pictures of plugs I mentioned above: first the grey plug with small pins and nothing in it. Second, is the green plug behind the kick panel. You can see remnants of alarm connections made there.

What trim level is your CR-V? I'll take a look under the dash of the next one that comes through the shop. It's been a long time since I've spent much time on one of these. I can also check the wiring diagrams.

You would be pleased to hear some of my issues are resolved! Both of which resulted from user error - me. The interlock solenoid was not engaging because I did not plug in the harness into the big grey plug I was trying to identify. There was just so much behind the fusebox that I did not see the open harness plug. That also brought back my wipers - which I promptly fried the fuse for - user error here - bent and shorted pins in one of the plugs.

I am now just missing running lights!

Investigation continues!

Small update. Using a trick I found on youtube I tapped into a dimmer light switch to draw power to my lights. While I have not resolved the problem, at least I have temp. working solution. To be continued...
