Default Hello from Muncie In. 99 ek hatch mini me tuned turbo project (blown block)

I have been restoring rare Honda sport bikes. I built a 78cb750 into a nice cafe cruiser and s couple 86 interceptors. Restoring them was so much fun. I took a pretty good spill on one so I decided to take on another Honda project. Being 44 I deciddd to get on 4 wheels.. I dont have a lot of room .... civic!

I had a friend that hadn't had the luck on a bike like I had and had this Honda project on the back burner. He is and always will be a wrx guy. It didn't take muchto trade. He gave me as much info as he could:

A 99 Ek hatch with a d16y7 block (blown! 2 giant holes) with a y8 head and intake I believe. It has an eBay t3 turbo intercooler full racing exhaust, a socketed Ecu I asume new drag concept rims with hankook tires. It has coil overs and is basically as low as it can go. It looks great. I love the hatches. I had a Gti vr6 for a couple years.

ive done a lot of reading and studying as much as I could from social media ( there are a lot of local groups on facebook) all the forums on the net. This one seems to be the most active, and polite.

I am going after this as my first real build on a car, I'm wanting it to be a weekend or after work "blow off steam" car. I like some of the seat conversions I've seen. The console and dash. You realllycan do just about anything to these hondas. I'm going to concentrate on getting it running and driving first.

We do not have emissions test stations where I live so will not have to worry about that.

Ive been told that I can only change the y7 block with y7. Everything I've read says y7 and y8 blocks are the same.
Then I hear that there is a difference in the deck height.
I'm starting this project with the plan of replacing the block and using the tuning already in it. Would the deck height between the two blocks make a lot of difference in tuning? If so how hard is tuning?
I basically have a y8 engine with a y7 block.
The minimi was only beneficial to put a vtec on a y7
it would have no benefit on an already y8 engine. Right.

I need a block block built into a short block with turbo in mind, or a naked block that I can have built. I'm going to definitely use a block guard, up fuel and injectors
I will be doing it all and sharing it here. Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!

thank you
Bob

Ill ll be upping oil for sure I'm almost afraid the "new" turbo kit with the oil pan or something bad to blow holes on the block!!! I've thought on the topics of walking cylinders, bad oil flow. High mileage block with a new turbo. Cooling ......
operator error, bad junk oil, it blew up on its second test run after fixing a injector wiring issue. He said it was stupid fast and he knew when he got hard into it, it blew.

Hi Bob,
Welcome to the forum first of all.

I think you will have the best success with this in either the forced induction or hybrid engines sections, possibly Civic as well.

Good luck!
