Default Auto Transmission maintenance

Hello all. 1994 Accord LX, F22B2 engine with Automatic Trans. 128K miles.
We bought the car used about six months ago, and (long story short) the cascading issues have led to a complete engine overhaul.
Right now the engine block is at the machine shop for ~4 weeks, and the transmission is sitting on the floor.

QUESTION: Are there any transmission maintenance/checks I should be doing now, while everything is very accessible, prior to install?

There were a number of things on the engine side that indicate the car was not well maintained. Upon draining, the trans fluid was extremely dark, and there were a few solid metallic flakes and some 'dust-like' particles settled in the bottom when I poured out the white drain bucket. The magnet on the drain plug was pretty fuzzy.
FWIW, when it was driving, the transmission exhibited NO shifting or slipping issues.
Thanks for any advice or suggestions!

Buy two 1 gallon jugs from Walmart. Pour all the old fluid in one jug. Put them on level surface. Pour new Honda atf fluid in other jug to the same level.

Thanks, Holmes. Measuring the volume that came out is not an option- the trans system got drained in increments. Some came out when I pulled the radiator, some more came out when I pulled the AT drain plug, and then some more came out when I rigged the engine+AT out. I really don't know how much came out altogether, and at any rate, it's all in the recycle/slops jug now!

One think to add- I am figuring on flushing the AT cooler and lines to the radiator, but I'm not settled on a flushing fluid yet...
