Painting Your ITR
Hey everyone. Just wanted to get opinions on how you guys feel about painting an ITR.
Just a little background, I bought my car this past April. Its not perfect but its got its share of dings and chips. Its got all original numbers on the panels except the front bumper which I could not find. I believe the front bumper is original because the upper hanger that meets the front fenders under the hood is still black.
The paint is decent but there are a few spots that bother me like the front bumper/lip and rear bumper and just random stuff. Its understandable due to the age of the car and how it was driven by previous owners.
So consider it as if it was yours, like you were keeping it or may resell it ONLY as a last resort.
Would you paint the whole car of just fix bits and pieces. Thanks for any inputs!

I painted my 98 ITR black 10 years ago because I bought it as a shell and it needed a paint job bad. I absolutely love the color black on cars, but over time I've come to appreciate the original CW on ITRs. Matter of fact I am planning on restoring my ITR back to CW. My decision at the time was based on the premise that it's my car and I'm never going to sell it. Anyway, whether you decide to change up the color or keep it original just be sure you can live with your decision.
If you need ideas or just want to see what other people have done, see link below. I believe there was one in there that was painted in graffiti. Lots of comments from both sides on that one but personally I thought it was cool.

I believe when you remove the black bar with the screws the vin is under that bar.
In my opinion I would do a blend job of the front end so you keep most of the original paint and then do a buff on the entire car

Most, if not all paint shops will paint over the VIN stickers.
I can see the shape of mine (on my SI bumper), under the paint, but the numbers are painted over.
I asked them to tape over the VIN and they said it would a place for the paint to peel.

It all depends on what is "bits and pieces".. 3 problem areas only? Or the whole front end rock chipped, door dings all along the sides, and a baked roof? If so paint the whole vehicle. But make sure they do the body work correctly, what I mean about that, make sure they block sand each panel by hand, using good quality materials, also have the car primed, guide coated and re-blocked. Make sure that all windows are removed, and both bumper covers removed and sprayed separately. Do it right will cost more but it'll be way more worth it. If you want to do it on the budget, you are better off driving it as is and living with the imperfections.
