1992 Civic Hatch B18B1 Speedo Problem
I recently bought a 1992 Honda Civic DX (Hatchback) with a B18B1 (Five speed)swap. The swap is out of an integra.
my speedometer needle is stuck under the pin below zero, and when I reach speeds of ~60MPH it will raise (backwards) to ~100MPH. I also have the CEL #17 (VSS)
so my question is: do you think replacing the CEL would fix the problem, I have checked the cluster assembly, everything is securely plugged in, and all the connections looked good on the back of the cluster assembly. I tried both lifting the needle over the peg, and turning it backwards to zero, and no luck. The connection to the VSS is sturdy, and so is the VSS to the transmission. The only reason I am doubting that it is the VSS is because my trip meter, and total mileage still go up. Has anyone else had this problem? Any cures?

So it is only a couple of hours later, and I have found the solution. I took the VSS completely out of the transmission. After it was out, I cleaned both the male, and female connections with connection cleaner. Then replaced it back into the transmission. In the interior of the car, I took out the cluster. After that I split the cluster in half. (Took the front plastic off), and moved the needle back to above the peg. On the rear of the cluster there are three screws holding the speedometer in, I took these out. (Be careful, as these are what send the electrical current through to the actual speedometer) I removed the board from the speedometer assembly, dusted it off carefully, and cleaned the pin ports for the motor. After putting everything back together (make sure the three screws are decently tight, but not excessively) everything worked. If you are having this problem, give it a try, if you want photos, just leave a reply and I will add some.
