Default 1996 Civic Dx Cracked Engine Block Repair?

I just traded an 02 Ducati Super Sport Motorcycle for a 96 Civic Dx. The Ducati was given to me by my brother. The tags were expired for 2 yrs, the body kit was broken in various sections, and the bike would crank over but not start. Anyways the Civic I got in the trade is SUPER CLEAN!!!!! First, the body is straight, it has very few dings and the paint still looks new!!!! The only exterior flaws are a 3 inch crack on the rear bumper, a small crack in the winshield, and the driver side door lock is busted out. Second, the interior is just as clean as the exterior. The carpet looks brand new, the back seat area looks like no one ever sat in the rear. The only two interior flaws are two small cigarette burns on the front seats. Itntruely is a very clean civic. Problem is that the guy I got it from craked the bottom of the block. The car still starts, but has a loud knocking and it leaks alot of oil. Would having the crack on the block TIG WELDED solve the engine problem or do I have to drop a new engine? Honestly the car is ALOT cleaner than what it looks like in the pics.

Gonna guess you have the y7 engine. But more info would help. Cracking a block normally means its more than just superficial. Depending on where the crack is the block may have walked a little and could have put the crank out of line. If you are proposing to strip the entire block down. Clean it to a degree to weld it then have it checked and possibly decked line bored and possibly a new crank then then you should simply pick up a short block and replace it. I see no sense in spending that much time and effort on a block worth no more than $200. Thats a lot if labor for nothing in return. If you are doing the work yourself then pull the engine and take it apart. You may find a cheap block but its more likely you will find a running engine or a used short block.

I see no images of the crack on the block, is this suppose to go in the appearance section?

This sounds like a thrown rod. The hole in the block is from the engine coming apart inside while running and parts being thrown through the block.

This is not practical to repair. The engine needs to be replaced, at least the bottom half (short block). Usually it is best to buy a used "long block" complete engine, the block with head already attached, and have a guarantee on the whole thing.

I was just curious since the engine was the original one the car came with it would be better to keep it original but thinking aboutit now a upgrade to a vtech would be better

First off, go back and edit your text, people are less likely to help if you compare their engine to a baby toy, it's a V-Tec. Next on the agenda is converting to V-Tec engine, if indeed you do have the y6 engine although you have not posted any details about the engine, you already have a V-tec, possibly arming yourself with more information about the actual car you own will not only help you ask the right questions, but also protect yourself from being taken advantage of.
