So I bypassed my TB and iacv, my IATS were always rediculous NA even, so I wanted to eliminate some heat, I plan on eventually using thermal gaskets for the IM and TB too..

I've seen this done before but someone fab'd block plates, I'm wondering if it's necessary.

From what I could see from a coolant diagram I saw on here, it (a) flows out near the top rad hose into (b) TB and out TB into(c) iacv and out into (d) pipe on rear of block, yes? If so looping (a) to (d) should be sufficient? Or even blocking off a and d? So nothing should flow through either without the line hooked UP?

Just want to confirm so I don't spray fresh coolant everywhere

Just an update since no one chimed in..

I did this mod while installing a turbo, and from checking my data logs, my IATs dropped from like 70-80°C to basically ambient, I did install an intercooler too but this is recorded at a standstill (no cooling air passing the IC), my IM is much cooler to the touch as well as the whole area feels cooler.

I also live in Canada, and it's winter.. So, I've seen the IATs get pretty low at times, as low as 4°C.. I haven't yet experienced any issues with throttle icing/sticking much yet though I can imagine it being a possible problem on really cold daya, but I drive pretty spirited usually and the turbo keeps it warm enough.

I'd recommend this mod to anyone who doesn't regularly drive in temps below 0°C..

Remember thought induction icing is possible with low ambient temperatures and is something pilots / aircraft engineers account for in their engines and over their wings for good reason, I'm not about to explain thermodynamics and physics here when this information is available easily on the net but it's worth doing a search regarding tb icing if you're considering this mod and live in an area like I do and drive your car in winter.

For anyone who will never see below 5°C, I don't think you would see any issues and it would lower IATs.

 

Oh yeah, I didn't actually remove any parts or block anything off, I simply looped the lines around though you could probably block stuff off for a cleaner bay.

 

Your IAT doesn't get any readings from the coolant bypass..
