So I just bought a 1994 honda accord 2.2L Vtec and i was looking at my engine and everything else the other day and I noticed there is a loose part laying around by the distributor. I have no idea what it is and why it is loose please help me find out what it is . Thank you
Vtec engines come with a coil built into the distributor, non vtec have an external coil that bolts where the vtec solenoid would go. It looks like this car had a vtec swap done.
You will probably need to make a custom bracket to hold it, I havent found one to buy yet. If anyone knows of one, let us know.
If the car is not an EX model then the VTEC engine was swapped in. EX VTEC(F22B1) uses an internal coil Hitachi distributor.
If it is an EX model then someone did some goofing and put quite a bit of work into using the non VTEC(F22B2) TEC distributor.
I see that the front water outlet appears to have RTV squished out, it uses a triangular shaped 'O' ring, not goo.
And there appears to be a loose black wire with a female spade connector dangling.
B2 external coil normally bolts to the head behind the distributor, but with the VTEC engine it cannot as the VTEC solenoid now occupies that space.
