Honda transaxle swap
Hey guys, I have a 94 Honda accord 16 valves non-vtec sohc engine. We call it ph20 engine in the Philippines and I believe it's f20a or b in the US. Recently, my transaxle case got broken because of gear oil leaks and I really want to change it ASAP but, I can't find the exact tranny for my engine. Can I use smaller trannies from Honda civic as long as they are also from sohc non-vtec engines? I don't know but some people told me all sohc trannies are swappable to other sohc engines be it 1.6 or 2 liter engines. And some said they don't fit. Please help guys! Thanks
It is an F series engine. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_F_engine
You can use transmissions from 90-97 4th-5th gen CB-CD Accords with F or H engines or from the 92-96 4th gen Prelude with F or H engines.
Only difference is the gear ratios. USDM Accord F22 transmissions have the most economical gear ratios, H22 VTEC from a Prelude will have the most aggressive.
There are Accords that had smaller 1.6 engines but those were not F/H engines and the trans will not bolt up to your engine.

Thanks man, we have also PH12-PH16 engines here if I'm not mistaken and they're from old city and civics in the Philippines. Can I use their transaxle to change mine? The only accords we have here are PH20 or F20 for my model so it's out of the question because they sell PH16 transaxle way cheaper compared to the original transaxle of PH20. I don't mind if my vehicle became slower, I just use the vehicle for daily drive and I want to return it in its stock condition. I'm a student technician btw! I study about Toyota so yeah I don't have any ideas with Honda lol
The 'PH' nomenclature that was used on the Philippine cars is something goofy that Honda did. All over the world every other Honda will have it's correct series name stamped/cast onto the block. Although the Civics have a 'PH' marked engine, it is most likely a D series engine. Transmissions do not interchange with the Civic and Accords. Find a trans from an Accord, Prelude, Ascot Innova. Some European Accords did come with D series engines, but again these transmissions will not work with your Accord.
