2000 Accord ECM question
I have a 37820 p8c a53 ECM and I see on other places they can be interchanged with several different numbers, but Honda dealer parts tells me they can only be replaced with the exact same ECM. Is this true and if not can it be straight swapped and disable the ignition cutoff module easily?
They can be interchanged as long as the ECU is for the same engine and transmission setup. As far as the immobilizer is concerned, there is no easy work around. In saying that, there are locksmiths that offer key fob programming at a cheaper price than the dealership.

Thanks. I took one to dealership, they took 2 hours to get to it, said it wouldn't communicate and charged me $75. Same dealership that told me it had to be the exact same number to work.

How can I back reference the second ECU number to see if drivetrain is a match?

The last number is the version. So the 3 vs 4 could possibly have some emissions or fuel table changes, however as far as wring up and running your engine, they are the same.
Thanks, thought that was the case after much resourcing of info. Amazing how much cross over (and under) info you get on these cars. Have gotten it to turn over and most everything is lit up and working. Do not hear fuel pump picking up though, been sitting a good while (about 4yrs) so not actually surprised. Now need to consider the key interaction and what is needed to make sure it is working.
Do we know if we are getting turn over, if key is passing the test or the no crank possible symptom of key?

OK, if the emission table is different then is there a next step your aware of that I will need to pursue to correct? Or any direction to research further than wading through GROOGLE! (:.} GOOGLE)
