08 Honda Pilot
Hi, I am hoping for some help.
We own a 2008 Honda Pilot, bought it used about 2 years ago. Last fall, it started having 'issues'. Had a mechanic friend look at it, and he determined that it was the fuel pump. Well, he replaced the fuel pump, and the same issue occurred, so he thought it was a faulty fuel pump, and he replaced the fuel pump. So, he thought it was the relay switch so he changed that as well. It worked... or so, we thought. A few weeks later, on my husbands commute home from work, the car died ~ in traffic on the interstate. He managed to get it over to the side of the road, and called a tow truck. Our insurance only paid for it to be towed a short distance, so to make a long story short, he paid extra to have it towed to my parents house which was closer than ours. It sat in my parents driveway for a few weeks, and then it was towed to a repair shop and it was 'repaired' again. Same issue relay switch & fuel pump. Well, it ran for a few more months, and died about 1/2 mile from my house. We pulled into our yard and that is where it has stayed while we ascertain it is something that Honda has recalled or knows about or something else entirely. Any help would be greatly appreciated. All this work has been done in this last year...

Since the relay(s) and fuel pump has been changed, the issue may be related to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), aka car's computer. The PCM controls/sends power to both PGM-FI Main Relay 1 and PGM-FI Main Relay 2, which controls the fuel injectors and fuel pump; respectively.
The wiring, connector, or PCM can be the culprit. The PCM is located in the right side of the engine compartment. Examine the wiring and the 3 connectors at the PCM for obvious signs of damage (e.g., rodent chew on wiring, burnt, etc.). and make sure they are tightly connected.

OK. That could be. What might occur if the relay is flaky and starts, but later fails with the engine running? Will the vehicle stop running or will it continue to run until shut off, then might not crank again until/unless the relay works again?
