Default 1991 CRX HF cat converter need help

Hey all im in the process of replacing my old original catalytic converter. These are the ones that bolt up right below the exhaust manifold. Ive already unbolted the 4 nuts at the top and just unbolted the 3 at the bottom right before the bend in the pipe(before the donut gasket). Now my question is do i have to unbolt the exhaust manifold to get it out? The cat is now just floating where its at. Seems like its hitting on the crossmember and the engine block when trying to get it out from below. How have others removed their old catalytic converters? TIA

It would definitely make it a lot easier, only 9 more nuts to remove.

Definately. The more i look at it, it seems the way to go..im wondering if i have to unbolt the manifold nuts in sequence? And is it necessary to replace the gasket while im at it? My first time removing a manifold lol

Generally speaking, engineering states work outside in when removing and inside out when torquing sequences are involved. It's not going to hurt following that rule of thumb if there isn't a definitive sequence to follow. And yes you should replace that gasket.
