Default LSD LS Transmission Question?

I have a LS transmission, that I want to make LSD. So I found a LSD online Used that came off a Honda DC2 integra EK9 Civic type R helical LSD b16. I wanted to know if this will be useable with a B series LS transmission.

Yes, but you will need a complete final drive set to go with it, your stock FD will not work.

He's incorrect. B16/LS are in one family, ITR/GS-R in another family. Using your LS FD doesn't change the fact that the ITR LSD can't fit in there with that sun gear. You want an LSD, get an aftermarket one and call it a wrap. Don't get used OEM parts that tend to get beat up already.

To add more: The LS has a 4.2 final drive, the B16 has a 4.4 however the GSR/ITR final drive, though identical on the outside, does not share the 'bolt pattern' of the b16/LS gear, the inner diameter is not the same and so a b16 OR an ls final drive gear cannot accept the ITR/CTR differential.

So a JDM B16 tranny with an OEM LSD would bolt right into a LS transmission?

Are you saying a B16's OEM LSD housings to fit within the LS's Transmission housing? If that's what you mean, the answer is yes.

As long as it is a standard B16A transmission and not one from a CTR, then yes, it would drop into the LS transmission. The B16B factory transmission is actually in the larger diff family like the ITR and GSR.

Read above from the other contributors. The B16/LS are in the same family for LSDs . So whatever you find aftermarket for a B16 will work for the LS standard Transmission. Final drive has nothing to do with that selection unless you're trying to put an OEM FD from a different family into the B16/LS transmission housing.

MFactory makes fitments for both the B16A/LS and B18C/B16B.

The OEM B16A LSD will work in any 92+ B series transmission but must use the complete matching OEM LSD FD (ring gear and counter shaft) as the ring gear is part of the LSD.

Warning, this may get confusing.

This may help. In the world of lets say 96+ B-series, there is the GSR/ITR final drive which are 4.4. The JDM ITR is taller and uses the same bolt-pattern and 116mm inner hole.
The B16A2/B16A3 has a 4.4 final drive with the smaller 109mm inner hole. The LS final drive fits this too, smaller gear, but interchangable. This means the 99 Si's b16 4.4 final drive is a bolt in to an LS transmission, use the countershaft/final drive.

The ITR/CTR final drive is a helical unit and uses the 116mm hole. It fits the EK9/DC2 and 94+ Integra GSR. It also fits the JDM ITR's taller final drive. This LSD will not fit a smaller hole, such as a b16a2 final drive or LS final drive.

WHen you say b16, remember there are more than one generation of b16 engines/trannys. for example in japan there is a b16 in 95 with an LSD ...but uses more than the ten bolts the DC2 does. I think 12 or 14 bolts. This does have an LSD, but it is a clutch-type, not a helical used in the DC2 and EK9 transmission.

So: B16A (say 1995 Honda Civic SI-R II) in japan= 14 bolt final drive ring gear (all 94-01 American B-series trans are all 10 bolt ring gears)
B16A2/A3 in america = 10 bolt, 109mm circle, 4.4 final drive
b18 LS = 10 bolt, 109mm circle, 4.26 final drive
Integra GSR = 10 bolt, 116mm circle, 4.4 final drive (ITR LSD bolts in)
ITR/CTR = 10 bolt, 116mm circle, 4.4 final drive (LSD from the factory)
ITR in japan = 10 bolt, 116mm circle, 4.7 final drive (LSD from the factory)

And remember the 10 bolt ring gears all use the same bolts, they are left-hand threaded

Not all of the 10 bolt bolts are the same. ITR and CTR are longer.

What would be the purpose, or need, for longer bolts on this application ???

The flange is thicker and the ring gear bolts aid in keeping the LSD case together.
