I would like to confirm that I understand one of the instructions in the timing belt tension adjustment from the Helms manual.
I installed the new belt and rotated the crankshaft counterclockwise 4 rotations to set the belt on the gears and brought it back to TDC. Both cams were at TDC and the line on the crank gear was in line with the arrowhead on the oil pump (covers are off). I've also loosened the adjusting bolt.
My question is about the next step where you actually put tension on the belt. The instructions say to "Rotate the cranckshaft counterclockwise 3 teeth on the camshaft pulley". I'm unclear on what "rotate 3 teeth" means. In the picture I've attached, the third tooth past the TDC mark on each cam is now facing the other. Is this what it's supposed to look like?
Yes, once you are at tdc you loosen the tensioner and allow it to "snug up" on the belt, rotate it to the point in your picture, then tighten it to spec. Done
Thanks for the reply, WF. This picture isn't at TDC. The crank has been turned almost a full revolution to move the cam gears 3 teeth. I watched your video and DaringBeefcake did the same thing at 7:30. Appreciate you posting it.

1. slip on the belt with all timing marks lined up
2. tighten tensioner
3. rotate crank 1 full revolution to verify all marks are dead on.
4. loosen tensioner bolt 1/4 turn
5. rotate crank 3 teeth
6. tighten tensioner bolt.
