How to put a GSR transmission in your RD1 ( 97 98 99 00 01 CRV )
Here is how to put a normal bar linkage b series transmission (integra / em1) into your crv. gsr ls b16 your pick
The reason i myself did it was simply because i could not source another crv specific manual trans, i ran across one after searching craigslist in NC SC and georgia, and through facebook pages. guy wanted $600 and it was already out of the car, couldnt verify it was good etc.
So instead i found a GSR transmission and made it work.
did all of what you see here in a day and its not a final product
You will need:
b series trans of your choice
b series shift linkage 04-01 integra linkage is what i used, 99-00 civic si linkage may work as well im not sure
99-00 civic si T bracket
manual b series starter (crv manual starter is different than normal b series starters)
2.8 quarts synchromesh
Originally bought the crv high mileage (250k +) with a known 2nd gear grind. because i already had an auto one 122k no title.
and swapped in the low milage motor, knowing id have to deal with the trans down the road. But after only 2 months, 5th also got a grind and whine and eventually was completely gone. previous owner had already removed the drive shaft for AWD so going to a 2wd trans was no biggie for me.
First things first, remove the transmission
Pretty straight forward same as any other b series. At this point i'd already pulled the shifter box and cables out. few 12's few clips few 10's later everything pulls right out, and we will come back to that in a minute.
GSR trans bolted up and realized the old transmission mount did not line up with the holes on the trans.
also the integra mount that came on the trans was out of a dc integra which shares same mounts as eg and is different completely....
so what to do ..
I had a fabricator at the shop make up what id like to call an "EG conversion mount"
probably will get hate for this but, its my personal vehicle, it was free, its functional and solid
you can probably use a b series trans mount and it bolt up with no fabrication so install everything at this point, axles, starter, harness, can button everything up now, and dont forget you have to use a t bracket from a 1999-2000 civic SI.
moving on to linkage:
Hook up the linkage and mark where you need to cut your (2-3") hole. its easiest to remove the shifter so you can see where it will be when its flush to the floor.
once you get your passage for your shifter put it together and push it on up through. Mark where to drill the 2 holes to mount the stabilizer bar to the frame. i used 2 spacers to use between the frame and the bushing on the bottom side to make the shifter sit more level.
Next fill trans with fluid and she will be drivable.
i plan on installing the rubber grommets and re installing all the trim pieces soon. ive ordered an adjustable shifter as well because it does sit quite lower that normal. you can get shifter extensions or different shifters and ***** to accomadate it.
the gear ratio between gsr and the stock 5 speed awd trans are pretty similar.
