Default Assistance needed: Rod bearing measurement/clearance methodology

Ok so i have I have manley pistons and rods going into a b16. Heres where im having issues. I cant seem to get a rod bearing clearance im confident with. So far ive tried acl standard bearings, and acls race hx bearings. I ended up getting .0015 across the board with the standard bearings. Which is within hondas service standards, i understand that. But I want to be in the .002 range because thats what manley calls for. Also from what ive learned its "safer" to be slightly on the loose end when building for forced induction. The hx gave me the exact same result. I was wondering what bearings anyone would reccomend to put me where i want to be. I was thinking about oem reds, but i dont have the money to be buying bearings over and over again. Any input is appreciated. Thanks in advance. If this is in the wrong forum i apologize. Still pretty new to ht and dont know where to post anything.

You'll be fine at .0015" If you want, you can try King bearings, they usually are a little bit looser than Acl's. That is what I have found from measuring bearings. But you will be fine at .0015 on high power boosted setup. Just make sure you watch your oil weight and are getting the pressure you need, if you choose to go looser on your oil clearances.

.0015 should be just fine for rod clearance for most purposes. If you want them looser you could have a machine shop hone the big ends of the rods to achieve the clearance you want with the bearings you already have. Just a thought.

Hx's should not measure out the same as standard ACL'S. I believe they provide .001 more oil clearance(correct me if I'm wrong). Sounds like you need to re measure. Also if your getting. 0015 with standard acls, hx would put you at .0025 which is to much clearance. Ide try a set of Honda red bearings. You could measure your rod first, measure your crank journals, do the math than order the honda bearing required (so your not wasting anymore money on unneeded bearings). Also recheck/remeasure with your new bearings and plasti gauge as a triple check. Just my 2cents. Im going through this right now with my eagle rods. They are taking honda reds, but depending on the actual bearing thickness when I receive them my clearances could be anywhere from .0014-.0020. Just have to wait to recieve them, remeasure and determine if I need the rods honed out slightly. I plan on .0017-.0020 for what its worth.

You shouldnt be getting the same clearances with both bearings

either the bearings are the same or you arent measuring right

i agree with hatchy. For mains i wouldnt have as much of an issue but rods id want closer to 20. I had a motor once with a .0014 rod bearing and it was substantially worn down in relatively low miles.

Fwiw my current motor is .002 for rods and mains i have absolutely no oil pressure issues.

Plastiguage lol. Sorry for not replying to this post. I havnt been getting any email updates and i rarely log onto ht. BUT that being said i appreciate everybodys input. Ill go ahead and remeasure with the hx bearings at some point today and see what results i end up with. Ill keep you guys posted. I was also thinking about going with oem reds. I may just buy two red bearings and measure to see if im happy with the clearance. Once again thanks for the input guys.
