And also aesthetically and function wise what is the difference between the two?

Externally they are the same.

internally the gears are different sizes equating to shorter ratios equating to a quicker transmission in the B16 transmission.

If they are both cable or hydro type transmissions... yes, they will interchange and will appear very similar on the outside.
