I recently bought a 2001 Accord EX 4 cylinder. The car was a one owner and has 127k on it. The original owner had all the paper work for all the cars maintenance. But like everyone, they slacked on the trans drain and fills. I only show 1 documented drain and fill at 38k.
I am not new to honda's but most my cars have been 5spd. The car has a slight delay for lack of better words shifting 1-2. It doesn't slam into gear or slip (rev up and go into gear). It slimlpy takes a secound until it goes into 2nd. The car doesn't lose power during the shift I know these transmissions are known to be "weak". I have done 2 drain and fills since buying it yesterday. And will do a 3rd this weekend. There is no check engine.
Is it possible there could be a faulty sensor but no check engine light? I will include pictures of what the drain plug looked like on the first drain and fill below.
As stated above my destription isn't very accurate. It's hard to explain what the car exactly does. And a video wouldn't do any good. The shift problem is only really noticable if you're a car person or if someone pointed it out. If you wife/ girlfriend/ grandparent ect drove it. They most likely wouldn't notice it. I would just like to stay on top of it.
There are 2nd and 3rd gear pressure switches. If they leak or are faulty they will not properly work and will cause a delayed shift.
Check for codes, not all CEL/D4 codes illuminate the lamp, but there may be a stored code.

Thank you for the information. I was thinking the same thing. I wasn't for sure if all codes set the light off or not. I am taking the car tomorrow to get the codes checked. I'll let you know what I find out. Thanks!

The car is showing no codes. Can a pressure switch be going bad and not throw a check engine light? The car will shift correctly once in a blue moon for a whole trip. Then once restarted it will go back to doing the same thing. The car isn't really "slipping". It almost feels like the car is a little slow to switch gears. The rpms go up about 500 and it takes a secound the shifts. There is no lose or power. And no slam or clunk when the rpms come back down into the next gear.
You would need to verify if the switch is functioning correctly by checking the pressure ports with a gauge. If the transmission is reaching the correct pressure at the correct speeds, but the switch is not making the circuit then the switch is most likely faulty. The problem with this is that the PCM will only set a code if there is something it can tell is wrong, a fault in the wiring or the switch is stuck closed. PCM cannot tell if the switch is simply not closing. It only looks for the signal and when it gets it then it will shift when there is enough pressure registered.
It's not the most sophisticated system.
