Here you can see the two screws, the lower one is connecting the stereo housing to a large metal component, and the screw above is screwed into a black plastic spacer and connects the stereo to the housing. But of course there's the large gray plastic piece preventing me from working in there, and needle nose pliers haven't done anything either.
This is a picture of the whole stereo housing box and the gray plastic price in the back. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks!
Hi! I just registered here, it seems promising, so hopefully someone can help me!
I have a 1985 Honda CRX and I just bought a Sony DSX-A400BT Stereo to replace it (which I have confirmed will fit). My problem is that there's one screw holding the current stereo to a metal housing located behind the stereo back, and it's incredibly hard to access.
If anyone has any experience or help to offer please do! The pictures included are of the screw location and the whole console. Thanks!
Like a lot of early Honda/Acura the stock radio is held in place with one 8mm ISO bolt at back of radio, this is for a 93-95 Civic... https://www.installdr.com/InstallDoc...PDF/466017.asp but it will give you an idea of how it is done. If I remember right a 1/4" #8 socket with a universal joint and 6" extension will allow you to easily reach the bolt to remove it, after that the unit just slides out, unplug the harness and ant. DONE. 94
Removing an Aftermarket Stereo in an '85 CRX? Please help!
Hello, I just registered here, it seems promising, so hopefully someone can help me!
I have a 1985 Honda CRX and I already Installed some Kenwood KFC-1165S speakers in the back panels as well as some 4" Kenwood somethin's in the front doors. I have some Rockford Fosgate Prime R1T-S tweeters in transit and I just bought a Sony DSX-A400BT Stereo to replace the Clarion 8825RT
that's currently installed. Everything was going well until I began trying to remove the stereo...
My problem is that there's two screws holding the current stereo to a metal housing box located behind the stereo back, and two more screws connecting the housing box to another metal brace. All of these screws are virtually inaccessible.
If anyone has any experience or help to offer please do! The picture I have is of the screw location, and I can always take more. Again, Thanks!
Here's the side view of two of the screws attaching the stereo to the housing and the housing to the metal brace. As you can see the bottom screw connects the housing box to the brace while the top screws into a black spacer and connects the stereo to the box. There's two more screws on the other side
Re: Removing an Aftermarket Stereo in an '85 CRX? Please help!
I can not find that unit anyplace, including Clarion, [old product] all I could find was an add for the unit on eBay and other ****RT units that are shuttle units
Can you post a pix from the front, it looks like a "shuttle unit" [whole unit slides out] of a cage].
If it is a shuttle unit there are no screws holding it in place, just a handle on the front that must be lifted up to unlock the unit.
The cage can then be removed, [standard DIN mount]. 94

If you can't figure it out, I would suggest taking the car to an independent car audio shop with an "older guy installer". I remember when these radios came out, they were BIG. It should not be a problem to remove.

Dave
