Default BWR Turbo "Hot Parts": Feedback on Quality and Utility

What's up H-T I've been out of the Honda game for 5 years now and thinking of getting back into it. I'm going to do another stock to mild build gsr turbo but notice that a lot of the companies that I used back in the day are no longer in business (ex: spoolin performance and boost flow). So I have been researching like crazy and noticed that Black Works Racing (BWR) has some nice turbo stuff. I have not seen any reviews on the turbo stuff so hoping you H-T members can shed some light before I jump back into the hobby. All info is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Like what exactly. I wouldn't necessarily say BWR is quality, running some of their LCAs though.

Definitely trying to find out if their turbo mani, dp and dt are quality products. Also I was interested in their full coilover suspension. I like to stick with 1 to 2 companies when it comes to putting parts on my car so hoping their top quality company.

BWR is usually my go to for parts. Im running their manifold, dump tube and downpipe. The only issue I had was a fabricating issue but I sent it back to them and they fixed it for free. Check out my build for more info but heres a couple links.

I ordered a BWR Lean turbo manifold and should have it arrive this week. I'm interested to see the welds and overall quality.
I can post pics if you like once it arrives.

More than what they used to be anyway. Don't just count on it yet. They tend to switch fabricators on a regular basis...Plus, you need to know what type of manifold you need, not just the fact that it's by them.

Quality and welds seemed great on a Ramhorn for a GSR in a EG coupe. However, I COULD NOT control boost due to WG placement. Anything under 18 psi was a nightmare, with a 6lb spring. Boost creep was definitely present with the Tial WG I had.

Good luck

I'm wondering if that is because of a lack of "tear drop" design with the wastegate placement. Reminds me of the older Peakboost manifolds that had the same issue. That's a really good point to consider.

I have their coilovers on a 98 civic coupe, rides awesome and was pretty good quality. I was in the same boat as you coming back into the Honda game after many years later.

Thanks. I've continued to search about their products but no much out there. I also attempted to contact them but still yet to hear back. I will continue to look into their products and decide when the time comes. Thanks again.

I'd strongly recommend either Go-Autoworks or Full Race over BWR.

BWR has had some ups and downs in the past and some spotty customer service. Not at all the same story with FR or GA.

We either talked to Precision or Tial and they mentioned the lack of the 'tear drop' design was the issue. IIRC there was proper room for a tear drop design.

Well, yes. Simply because there is room for that design doesn't mean they actually take advantage of that

I dont consider anything BWR quality they generally just copy other peoples designs and cut costs to sell things just a bit cheaper. With that said they have recently picked up some pretty decent welders from somewhere I want to say former peakboost welders...i forget I remember shodan talking about it

I would say they are OK, however there are other options from company's with a better track record, IE goautoworks, sheepy. goautoworks gives lifetime warranty and are proven to be good items just sayin

Thanks. I've been looking on go Autoworks and will be piecing my kit together when the time comes.

no issues with my goauto ram horn, definetly no boost creep. you may consider just buying the complete kit. everything fit well for me. not much money to be saved by piecing together IMO, comes with everything you need small stuff will add up to just about the same when you piece it together

More like former Full-Race welders before the robots took away a lot of their jobs. But those guys around that area migrate around. When one shop closes, or they pissed the welder off, they simply go to their competitor.

But again, I wouldn't use them for anything else. Just perhaps a Kooks manifold. That's it.

Just an update, I received the K20 Lean turbo manifold (T3, 44mm wg) from BWR yesterday. The welds are very nice and uniform, it feels very solid.
Tanner at BWR is very easy to communicate with and I can't argue about the price, I very happy with it. Sorry pictures are massive, can mod resize.
Thanks.

Yes. Very nice from the former Full-race and AFI boys. Now if they would only do manifolds other than TopMounts, Kooks, and K-series sidewinders that all don't use 1.75" OD runners. then I'd be more willing to care. But, those sell the quickest because of their popularity, so, staying on mission, it's all about volume $$$
