Default D15b piston question

Hey y'all, been a while since I've posted, got out of Honda's for a while.
Recently bought a crx to help save gas. Well, had to get it running again, new fuel pump, new battery, fresh fuel, can of sea foam. Started and ran first try after I replaced the pump. The other day while driving it, it died, lights went dim, battery was dead, so I'm assuming the alternator went bad, haven't really gotten that far. Trailered it back home, parked it, went to sleep. Next day I charged the battery, tried to start, heard a metal hitting metal sound, and would turn over as if I was losing compression. Checked timing, seemed to be spot on per timing cover marks. Pulled the valve cover and the rockers on cylinders 1 and 4, on the intake side are freakishly loose, probably an inch before they touch the valve. I'm scared a piston or two might have kissed the valves. I'm trying to source parts, but I'm falling short.

Car is a 1990 crx base model
Has a d15b with a nonvtec head? Dpfi 5 speed
I bought the car for 500 bucks, the only reason I bought it was to save money on gas. I'm not trying to race, or build a monster, but I like the idea of having the d15b. I have a d16z6 head at the shop I can put on it later, will find a p28, distributor, mpfi, etc, but for now I just want it to run.

I have not pulled the head yet, to check the damage, if any, but I'm playing worse case scenario, just in case.

I've used the search button, I've lurked google for days trying to find info on this, nothing has come up. Thanks

This isn't the correct forum so I will move this to the CRX section after I finish this reply.

First things first, do the valve lash on the cold motor and then you can check cold compression. If your fears are true, the compression numbers will show it and then you know you have to pull the head etc.

Maybe the rockers were left loose and so now are way out of wack and is the only issue.

Don't forget to inspect the belt while you have the cover off.

Best of luck.

There's a thread on the D15B in the FAQ, what you have is most likely just a straight up DX replacement but you won't know for sure until you visually confirm the pistons that are being used.

I haven't had a chance to look at it much, work consumes me these days. The block is stamped d15b. I made sure of that. The crank pulley is unlike any I've seen thus far on a Honda d series. Idk, I'll get to look at it more tomorrow and get back with y'all. Thanks

Thanks for the help guys. I found out it has the d15b non vtec. I got it started, turned out the brand new fuel pump I installed wasn't priming, and the fuel filter was completely clogged. I pulled the pump, hooked it to 12v, nothing, gave it a tap, it started working again. Weird. Put everything back together and it fired right up.

I was assuming I had bent valves because of how bad the adjustment was off. On cylinders 1 and 4 I could fit the tip of my pinky under the arms. I'm assuming that's not a normal situation? Although I still haven't adjusted them, it almost looks like I'll run out of adjustment before I can get them to spec.. anyone have any insight on this? Thanks again y'all.
