Default clutch grabs at top of pedal

My 2001 accord the transmission does not engage until the clutch pedal is almost all the way out. Once engaged there is no slipping but there is so much travel it just seems weird. I have owned probably at least 10 cars with manual transmissions and most of them the transmissions would start to engage several inches off the floor. Is there any adjustments that can be made to a hydraulic clutch to adjust pedal height? Could the slave cylinder have anything to do with pedal height? When I bought the car it was hit very hard in the front and the core support was wrapped around the engine but I do not think that would effect pedal travel. The car runs and drives great its just the engagement 2-3 inches from the pedal top does not seem right.

You need to adjust the master cylinder push rod by removing the cotter pin and taking the pushrod end and rotating it so that it retracts in. Then put it back in and test it before redoing the cotter pin. This will allow for a lower pedal. Ideally, you want there to only be about 3/4 of an inch of travel before the clutch pedal starts engaging the master cylinder(clutch free play).

Thanks for the info. I will do this tomorrow on my day off. I had several people tell me as long as its not slipping not to worry about where it engages but it just does not feel right to me the way it is

If it's too high it's actually possible for it to slip as there isn't enough grab when the pedal is to the floor even though it sounds impossible. It basically overextends.
