Honda CRV 2004 Engine Stop While Driving
Hey Everyone! I have a long list of what's wrong. I am wondering if the car can be fixed and if it's worth or if it's totally shot, which it very well may be.
2004 Honda CRV-EX 2.4L
The car turned off unexpectedly as I was pulling into a parking lot (Thank you God!). The check engine light had been on for only 2/3 days. It was not flashing. Temp gauge was good, at low 1/4 of gauge. I attempted to start the car and it wouldn't start unless i had the gas pedal pressed down. From then, it wouldn't stay running unless I kept giving it gas. The car is now definitely misfiring. The engine shakes and you can feel it while inside the car. The exhaust pipe gives a thumping sound. And the engine sounds like two metal, foil pans clanking together when it is running. When we checked the oil, there was barely any, like pretty much all the way gone. Before this, I did not know there was a leak, and the oil light had not come on.
Is this car worth working on? I'm thinking it's shot. Currently, it's still sitting at the church parking lot it died in.
Thank you,
Ryan

The absence of oil and the metal clanking coming from inside the engine suggest catastrophic failure. The good news is K24A replacements are available and should set you back $600-800 + labor. Plan on having the car towed to a shop.
