11 seconds on a $4000 budget
I know most people are under the misconception that it takes a lot of money to build a fast race car. Here's my story of how me and a few friends ran 11 seconds with less than $4000 in the car. We first purchased an 85 CRX for $100. The original motor was shot and the body was rusted severly. The car went through a big diet, it weighed about 1900 lbs with the driver. A junkyard motor was purchased for $500. This was an 89 Integra motor with 133,000 miles, duel cam, non-VTEC. Once the swap was in place a Greddy turbo kit was added, along with RC injectors. An intercooler was devised from a Freightliner intercooler. All and all the total spend on the car was less than $4000. So what were the numbers? On MT 24.5x8x13 slicks, 11.78 at 116 mph. Not too shabby in my opinion. Have faith, it can be done relatively cheap.
I do agree with you. 2.5 years ago my friend ran 11.8 at 118mph on a regular basis with acura integra ls. He just purchased the kit, added some arp studs and some je slugs and went to the track. We tunned the car concervatively with an afc and were pulling 118 mph traps on a regular basis. This car did not have any weight reduction except for the back seats being taken out and being on 24.5 slicks. If you add up the value of the performance upgrades, it was about $4,000. IT can be done, you just have to know what you are doing.
PS. We never dynoed the car, all street tunning, the car has been sold since then, etc.

how much boost? daily driven? full race?
i'm sure you can get the weight down even more. did it have a roll cage?
i was able to get a street driven CRXHF 89 down to 1640 with me in it.. no fiberglass at all. no roll cage though

The Integra LS had 14 psi of boost t3/t4 setup. Sometimes the boost spiked to 15 but not more than that. The car with driver weighed around 2550.

Greg,
When the car was auto 3 years ago lol it ran 14.0 at 100 mph on measily 6 psi of boost. He decided to put a manual tranny in and put some je slugs along with 14 psi, the combination netted 11's all year long. Took the car to 150 mph and it was reliable as a stock car, thats the funny part. Damn I miss that car. I think that setup in a bubble would have ran atleast 11.3's or better. This was a straight up ls motor with a simple *** drag III kit.

Go buy an old Mustang or Camaro. One of those with some work will go much faster for the same money than any Honda.
I have nothing against Honda's, but when you put a dollar amount on speed, *especially* drag racing, Hondas are in the wrong arena.

"Nothing against Honda"? Then don't post stuff if you aren't favoring Honda's. Our CRX had 18 lbs, stock motor, internals and head.

Thats the second auto teg I heard of doing a 14.0 with only 6-7lbs of boost and nothing really else..... thats crazyness
I know a guy that is trying to tell me that he got an 88dx crx down to 1200 lbs with him in it. I find that verry hard to beleive even though he does have fiberglass door and all. But he is about 300 lbs so that would mean that the car only weights 900 lbs hahaha. Whats about the lowest weight you could get a crx down to
My 85 Civic is down to just over 1500 lbs (without me). I can't really get it much lighter and still keep it streetable. Gonna have to chase power now (DAMN)
